15pt Pirate List

Ive finally finished my 15 point army for the Kooinda Gaming Klub Slow growth leaugue

Heres a pic of the Army.

Im using Phinneas Shae and even at 15pts I get to tier 3.

I've used this list a few times now with differing results but I really like the way it plays. The first KGK slow growth tournie is this weekend so Im hoping to have some success with them.

CANCON 2013

After the debarkle of CANCON 2012 I didnt think I would go to 2013 but curiosity won me over and I will be going again. This time I will be driving down so I can take advantage of the sales on the last day (kicking myself for not buying dread flet for $80)

So I wont be entering in any 3 day events the plans for the week end are to leave about 8pm thursday night to make it to Canberra about lunch time friday. Book into hotel then go sight seeing. Then Saturday the CON starts and I have no events to go to.

So leisurely travel to CON site about 10ish after the hordes have disippated then I can cruise about and try a few demo games and scope out potential buys for the weekend.

Sunday I am entered into the Warmachine/Hordes make mine a double tourney. 1 day 5 games 50 pts. My double partner is Eddie and he will have his work cut out winning enough games to make our team competitive cause lets face it I suck at warmachine. This will be my last tourney with Khador as I hope to have my pirate ready for the next one.

The caster I will be taking is the Butcher. He is a beast and I love how much punishment he can take and dish out. As Im a simple player my plans are simple. I have 3 units of 3 of each type of Man o War to act as a scum to deliver the butcher to the other caster and kill him. This is hit and miss as everyone will have a way to deal with this but the list is fairly forgiving and the MOW are tough enough to take a bit of a biffing.

On Monday I have entered the SAGA tournament. This will be a 6pt 3 game event. I am new to SAGA having played a hand full of games but I really like the simplicity of it. As I have stated to one and all if I cant do well at this game I will quit all board games and take up gardening and I hate gardening.

The thing I love about this game is it really comes down to you vs another general. Army selection really doesnt come into it. As with most systems there are many things I like and many things I dont. The main gripe with this system is it is expensive. The books are well written and simple but for what you get a 50 page book and 4 battle boards for $60 it is too expensive. As are the expansions which are a 20 page book and two battle boards for $25 - 30. Also the Dice are rediculous at $25 for a set of 8. Luckily you can sub normal 6 sided dice for them.

Still for a table top battle game the buy in isnt too bad. For under $200 you can get the book, set of dice and a full army.

Things I love about this game is the battle boards. You get limited dice based on your army selection and you use these dice to carry out certain tasks. Do you attack straight away exhausting your elite warriors or do you go on the defensive. I love the way this plays out.

So I chose the Jomsvikings as my first forray into SAGA. Something about the rage tokens just speaks to me (Angri anyone). I have a 7 point army almost painted.

50pts painted now to basing

Still not sure about the bases for this army. I want an urban base theme but how to do it alludes me atm.

Anyway I have painted a full 50pts now. The winter gaurd need some prettying up, like faces finished but they are good enough to take to a tourney now. I will do alittle more work on them as time permits. Ive also done a quick paint job on torch (Not my torch I will build a heavily modded version if he palys well) Also a couple of mechanics are near done as well. Once again a few small details to finish but good enough for now.

Winter gaurd with Yoseph. I left a few at home but a unit of 10 with command are done.

The worst thing about digital cameras is they show up mistakes I cant see with my own eyes. I will do alittle more work on the faces tho.

My version of torch. Needs some battle damage and more highlifhgts and shading but he willdo the job for now.

I hope to do some basing this week so stay tuned.

I love Man O Wars

Still cant get over how good these guys are. I was nearly not going to buy the battle box cause I thought they were pox. I now have all 3 types and am working on getting all the solos as well.

A Quick Update

The bodies of the MOW are near done. A few bits to clean up and some battle damage (which may have to wait) . They look a little drab at the moment so I will put a splash of red in there somewhere as well. Next is finish weapon and shields which just need a bit more highlighting. Also the cod pieces need t be glued on as well..

Big Battle Box Bash PLOG

So this will be where my painting blog (plog) will be for the BBBB. Ive been playing wargames for about 15 years and warmachine for about 18 months now since warhammer went 8th edition and pretty much killed my love for that game.

I have a troll army and a Cryx army but they are just a little subtle for my style of play (Run up and hit things)

So when the new duel battle box came out I had to buy it. In fact I bought two and have plans of using them the be the bases for my new Khador army. I sold the other bits of to my son and ado who will be using them to base there new BBBB armies on.

So What I will be stating with is Sorcha and the Juggernaut and the destroyer. To round out my first 15 points I will buy Yuri the Ax.

Once these are done I will finish the unit of man o wars and  then perhaps the MOW solo to bring it up to 25 points.

After that I will be using the other two Jack chasis to build torch and the other will be a multi jack or maybe even a heavy conversion to make the beast. In fact I will probably magnetise the first 3 jacks so I can swap out the weapons.

With the other unit of MOW I intend to buy the arms to make the other types of MOW units.


OK so down to paint and schemes. Im a big fan of themed armies. If you want to see some of my other works check out theogrestronghold. I have a painting log there under ogrebane.

So my theme for these guys will be WWII russian. Olive green with lots of battle damage.

First pics will be up as soon as I work out how to post them.

Big Battle Box Bash

Battle Box Bash!
The B.B.B. is an escalation campaign using Warmachine and Hordes Battle Boxes as a starting point.
The rules are designed for a fun campaign rather than serious tournament style play.
Your army must use the official battle box (or equivalent) for your faction. A few unofficial battle boxes for Minions and Mercenary and Retribution have been created but not sold by PP and these can also be used. Please contact me if you unsure what is in you battle box force.
Because points for the various Battle Boxes can vary from 8 to 13 points in order to start from the same level please add models to your battle box to have a 15 point army.
Tier Lists are allowed
Any games can be played at LXG meetings throughout 2011 and 2012 though this is not compulsory, you can playe xtra games out of session if you like.
Schedule
December – February 15 points (Must include your Battle Box)
March – May 25 points (Must include your Battle Box)
June – August 35 points (Must include your Battle Box) in this period we hope to run a 1 day tournament though CMIC (Cooinda Multiannual invitational Clash). This will be confirmed closer to the date.
September – November 50 points (Included Battle Box) may sub the Warcaster / Warlock from the battle box in this period we hope to run a 1 day tournament though LXG (League of Extraordinary Gamers)
By the end of November 2012 we should all have a painted 50 point army and possibly two 35 point lists suitable for tournament play.
Points
1 point per game (Per person played) includes both inside and outside the campaign is
fine.
1 point for playing the game with a fully painted force (all games count)
1 point per win (all games count)
